How to keep your hijab beautiful for longer, and what to do if a piece arrives with a problem.
Care by fabric
Each product page lists that piece's own instructions, and those come first. This is a summary of our three fabrics.
Cotton Voile
A light, breathable cotton weave, comfortable in UAE heat. Shailah's own fabric is durable and lasts for years, as our customers tell us.

Embroidery, crochet and beads
Do
- Check edges and details before washing
- Wash gently without pulling
- Fold with soft tissue between layers
Don't
- Cut a pulled thread
- Put the iron on beads
- Wring or twist the piece
Perfume, bakhoor and UAE weather
Oud oil can mark fabric: blot it at once with a dry cloth and avoid hot water.
Scent your hijab away from the burner. Close heat and smoke can mark fabric and handwork.
Store it completely dry in a moderate climate; room temperature is enough, in a cloth bag rather than sealed plastic. Fold it, and avoid hanging it for long periods.
Makeup on the edges: blot gently without rubbing, then wash in cold water.
If the colour looks different
We photograph our pieces in studio light, and colours can look slightly different on each screen. If the difference from the photo or description is clear, message us and we will review it with you.

Questions
Can I machine wash my hijab?
Yes. Plain, embroidered, Jouri rose, prayer and crochet hijabs are machine washable, because Shailah's fabric is durable and lasts for years. For handwork pieces, follow the instructions on the product page.
How do I deal with an oud oil mark?
Blot it straight away with a dry cloth, without rubbing, and avoid hot water. If a mark remains, ask us about the piece before trying anything else.
My hijab arrived with a pulled thread. What should I do?
Do not cut it. Take a photo and message us with your order number so we can review it.
Where are the exact instructions for my piece?
On the product page under Care. If they conflict or are unclear, ask us with the product code before washing.
